It looks like the first day of September will start off well with sunshine, but residents planning outdoor activities for the Labour Day weekend might want to keep an umbrella handy, as rain is expected later in the day.

For those who appreciate a stunning morning sky, today’s sunrise is at 6:42 a.m.

Residents of Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton, and Durham Region will wake up to sunny skies before clouds roll in.

There is a 40 per cent chance of afternoon rain across all cities, with wind speeds expected to reach 40 km/h in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Durham. Hamilton may experience stronger gusts, with winds picking up to 50 km/h.

Temperatures will be on the warmer side, with Mississauga, Brampton, Halton and Durham rising to 24 C, while Hamilton will be slightly cooler at 23 C.

The UV index will climb to a high level of 7 across all cities.

Environment Canada advises protecting your skin when the UV index is three or higher, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The humidex is anticipated to hit between 28 and 29, making conditions a tad uncomfortable for some individuals.

Additionally, Health Canada says that if outdoors, individuals should seek shade, wear protective clothing and hats, apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, avoid tanning, use UV-protective sunglasses and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Sunset begins at 7:52 p.m.—13 minutes earlier than last week.

Skies will begin to clear by evening, but clouds are expected to return around midnight. Winds could increase again to 40 to 50 km/h before gradually calming down by morning.

Temperatures will drop to 11 C in Mississauga, Brampton and Halton, while in Durham and Hamilton, it will dip to a chilly 10 C.

Beginning Monday, sunshine and crystal clear skies return and will stay through Thursday. By Friday, rain will set in. Daytime temperatures will range from 21 C to 25 C, with evenings cooling down to between 10 C and 14 C.
