A secondhand clothing franchise opens a shop in Mississauga this week.
Plato’s Closet, which has shops across North America, will celebrate the grand opening of a new shop at 6465 Millcreek Dr., unit 100, near Erin Mills Parkway, this week.
The franchise is known for its affordable, gently used clothing, shoes, accessories and brand-name items.
The new west Mississauga shop opens on Thursday and the celebrations include prize giveaways.
Beginning Oct. 24 and throughout the weekend, the shop’s owner Lauren Rosso invites people to stop in for a chance to win a “Sustainability Starter Kit”, which includes a Stanley water cup, Baggu reusable bag and $100 shopping spree gift card.
The store is a sustainable shopping option that provides a variety of styles for teens and young adults, according to a press release from Plato’s Closet.
The shop offers brand-name clothing at low prices while being eco-cautious. People can also bring in gently used brand-name clothing and turn it into quick cash, the release states.
“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Rosso said. “We are a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment. We don’t try to create new fashion trends, we respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner.”
The company hopes to divert clothing from landfills while providing a resource for shoppers who are looking to update their closet in a mindful, environmental manner.
Unlike a typical consignment store, no appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. Customers can save up to 70 per cent off brand-name clothing and accessories and receive cash on the spot for gently used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.
Plato’s Closet’s parent company, Winmark, also franchises Play It Again Sports, Once Upon A Child, Style Encore and Music Go Round.
The new Mississauga shop is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
