Second-degree murder charges have been laid in connection with the violent assault and death of a Malton man earlier this year.
Emergency crews responded to the lobby of 7110 Darcel Ave. in Malton last Jan. 29 where they found a man suffering “significant trauma” from an assault. He was taken to hospital where he remained in critical condition for some time.
Keith Lasaga, 58, died in hospital March 23 from injuries sustained in the attack.
Detectives from the Peel Police Homicide Bureau believed Mohammed Khan, 23, was responsible for the attack and arrested the Malton man on Feb. 20.
On Thursday, 12 days after Lasaga’s death, Khan was re-arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
The accused and the victim are not known to one another, police said.
This remains an ongoing investigation and police are asking anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) to contact Homicide detectives at (905) 453-2121 extension 3205.
