One person is in custody, a school was in lockdown and four others were placed on hold-and-secure orders after a possibly armed male was seen in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police said several schools in the area of Elbern Markell Drive and Lanark Circle were placed on hold-and-secure orders shortly before 12 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 27) after receiving calls about a “male possibly seen with a weapon.”

A police spokesperson confirmed that a total of five schools were placed on hold-and-secure, and while four of the orders were lifted around 1 p.m. one of the schools was put into lockdown. Police have not disclosed the names of the schools.

Police say one male has been taken into custody but a spokesperson could not confirm whether a weapon had been recovered. No injuries have been reported.

Police say that the lockdown has now been lifted but did not disclose any additional details about the incident.

Unlike a full lockdown where there is a possible internal threat that needs containment, a hold-and-secure is used by police when it’s believed there is an external threat.
