Published December 2, 2024 at 3:34 pm
One student is in police custody after a school was put on lockdown due to a post on social media about a weapon in Brampton.
The school went into a full lockdown around 2 p.m. after Peel Regional Police were alerted to a post on social media.
Investigators say the post was “of a student at a school” who had “a weapon.”
Police haven’t confirmed which school was put on lockdown, however, Central Peel Secondary School is located at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Church Street
Officers arrived on the scene and put the school on lockdown as a precaution.
No injuries were reported and around 2:30 p.m., police said one student had been taken into custody.
The lockdown has since been lifted.
Police haven’t said whether a weapon was located or if the student is facing charges.
Anyone with information about this incident can contact Peel Regional Police by calling 905-453-3311. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.
When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, never have to testify, and could receive a $2,000 reward.
Lockdowns are typically more serious than hold-and-secure orders, which are used as a precaution to protect students and staff from a potential incident in the area. A full lockdown prevents any visitors from entering the school.
