You can help save the life of a pet in need this Giving Tuesday with donations to the Brampton Animal Services’ HOPE Fund.

Giving Tuesday is the name given to a charity movement that follows on the heels of Black Friday sales, and a day when Canadians are encouraged to give back to the charities and non-profit organizations in their communities.

For this year’s charity drive the city is asking residents to dig deep and help support pets in need of medical surgeries at the Brampton Animal Services shelter.

The Helping Orphaned Pets in Emergencies (HOPE) Fund provides life-saving medical care for animals in need and vital support for families and their pets.

In 2024, contributions to the HOPE Fund allowed Brampton Animal Services to provide critical medical care, including life-saving surgeries, medication and rehabilitation to

Nearly 40 cats and dogs received medical care through HOPE Fund donations this year, including surgeries, medication and rehabilitation.

One of the shelter’s patients was Odin, a cat who needed to have one eye removed thanks to donations to the HOPE Fund.

The fund was started in 2001 to raise money for sick and injured animals so they can be rehabilitated and adopted into loving “forever homes,” with 100 per cent of donations used to provide extended medical care for animals.

“This vital support ensures that sick and injured animals receive the care they need to recover and find their forever homes,” Brampton Animal Services says.

Brampton residents looking for more ways to help this Giving Tuesday can also make donations to the  Emergency Pet Food Pantry, which helps provide food to pet owners struggling to make ends meet.

There’s also pet adoption or fostering, allowing a pet to live temporarily in your home until a permanent owner can be found, and Brampton Animal Services is always looking for more volunteers including dog walkers.
