The windows at Lorne Park Jewellers are boarded up after weekend robbery.

Robbers smashed through windows to get at the contents of a Mississauga jewellery store this past weekend.

The culprits targetted Lorne Park Jewellers in the normally quiet neighbourhood of Lorne Park on Saturday (Dec. 28) just after 1 p.m.

According to Peel Regional Police, those involved entered the store and took an unknown amount of jewellery and then quickly fled the scene. The were no reports of injuries.

The investigation is continuing.

Those who live in the neighbourhood were quick to express their shock at the crime.

“My gosh! What is happening to our neighbourhood!!!???,” wrote one commentator in a Facebook group. “Smash and grabs, home invasions, car thefts. It’s very unsettling.”

Others pointed out that these crimes appear to be increasing as the lawbreakers have no fear of legal repercussions if they get caught.

“The sad part is that nothing will happen to the perpetrators. Most probably they are already out on bail and even if caught they will be released on bail again the same day,” wrote another person in the group. “Eventually the charges will either be dismissed or reduced.”

Police say anyone with information about this crime should call the Robbery Bureau at 905-453-2121 Ext. 3410.
