A collaboration between Peel Police, Square One shopping centre and loss prevention officers over the holiday shopping season led to 60 arrests, 25 charges and the recovery of MORE THAN $43,000 in stolen property.

Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau and their partners launched the  initiative at the mall over a 12-day period in December to reduce retail theft and “enhance community safety.”

Between December 4 and December 16 police dedicated foot and mobile patrols in a retail enforcement blitz in a “proactive and tactical manner” to “detect, arrest and process offenders,” said Cst. Richard Chin in a video message.

The emphasis of the blitz was placed on repeat and violent individuals, as well as those wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. Though there were 60 arrests made, in a few circumstances police diverted some offenders from possible jail time and offered assistance by way of community referrals in lieu of criminal charges.
