Resturant fire in downtown Brampton forces evacuation

Businesses were evacuated in downtown Brampton as firefighters worked to knock down a blaze at a restaurant.

The fire broke out around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at a restaurant in the area of Queen St. West and George St. in Brampton, according to Peel Regional Police.

Photos from the scene show Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) gathered outside the Freshly Thai restaurant on Queen St. West.

No injuries have been reported but police say businesses in the area have been evacuated. Police have also closed roadways near the fire while emergency crews are on the scene.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Queen St. were closed for hours between Elizabeth St. and George St., and BFES Chief Bill Boyes said the fire was brought under control before 12:00 p.m.

UPDATE: Peel Regional Police said that Queen St. West has reopened between Elizabeth St. and George St. had reopened by 2:45 p.m.
