Restaurant Reco: The best Korean style fried chicken in Mississauga

If that craving for fried chicken hits but you still want some culture in your meal, then this popular Mississauga restaurant is a must-try.
Sikgaek Korean Restaurant and Bar may have flown under your radar, but make the trip to this unassuming resto and you’ll find one of the best spots for Korean food in the whole city. The restaurant is located at the plaza at 800 Dundas St E near Cawthra Rd.
Not only does Sikgaek specialize in standard Korean cuisine (think dumplings, kimchi, and a variety of rice and noodle dishes with meat options including beef, pork, and squid), but they also serve something many Korean restaurants don’t: Fried chicken! If you want to know what makes Sikgaek’s fried chicken so special, read on.
THE DISH:
Sikgaek offers several different fried chicken dishes on their menu. I went with their Uncle Joseph Chicken first, and I did not regret it one bit.
The Uncle Joseph Chicken is a dish of Korean style fried chicken drizzled with garlic sauce and a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. Of all the fried chicken places I’ve tried, none have blown me away with the first bite quite like this did. The chicken has a perfectly crispy texture on the outside with juicy white meat on the inside – incredibly well seasoned and made even better with the very flavourful garlic sauce. Then there’s the mozzarella cheese, which was packed with flavour and had a nice stringy texture to it. I’d never though about combining fried chicken with mozzarella cheese before, but this is definitely a match made in heaven.
Not only is the Uncle Joseph Chicken a terrific dish taste-wise, the plate is loaded with a huge amount of chicken – making this a great contender for when you want both quantity and quality. And really, who doesn’t want a lot of fried chicken, especially when it’s this good?
THE UNIQUE:
Aside from the fantastic menu, Sikgaek also boasts a beautiful interior that exudes comfort and a traditional Korean aesthetic. Pretty illustrations are abundant around the restaurant itself and on the menus, and aside from the open dining area, the tables are enclosed in their own rooms which makes the dining experience feel a lot more cozy.
THE VERDICT:
For Korean style fried chicken with an incredible taste and texture, you can’t go wrong with Sikgaek Korean Restaurant and Bar. All of their fried chicken dishes look amazing but I can personally recommend giving the Uncle Joseph Chicken a try.
