Even in the midst of a global pandemic, residents (who are able to do so) are invited to participate again in this year’s Earth Hour event.
Starting tonight (March 28) from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., people around the world will be shutting off all their lights as a commitment to a healthy, sustainable planet.
Started in Sydney, Australia by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, Earth Hour has since become a global event and continues to organize a grassroots movement centred on tackling environmental issues, even when the lights are back on.
The event is now going on its 14th year.
As the world finds itself in these difficult times, we’re inspired and uplifted by how people are staying connected. Join us this #EarthHour as we act in solidarity with millions worldwide to switch off at home at 8.30pm and raise our voice for our planet https://t.co/XABxkY9DdC pic.twitter.com/9dtJv6vWgO

“In the midst of the COVID-19 health crisis, we need to stand together now more than ever to safeguard our future and the future of our planet,” said the Earth Hour team.
“We recognize the exceptional challenge that the world is facing and we thank you for your support as we try to realign our Earth Hour work appropriately. In light of the latest developments, the Earth Hour global organizing team is recommending all individuals to take part in Earth Hour digitally this year.”
Other ways residents can get digitally involved include signing the “Voice for the Planet” petition and participating in Earth Hour’s online events happening tonight.
