Peel Police are not revealing any information about reports that a body was found along the Mississauga lakefront on the weekend.

Several people who live or were in the area of Port Credit and Lakeview yesterday (Dec. 29), took to social media indicating that a recovery effort had taken place and that a body was removed from the area near Lakefront Promenade.

When contacted by INsauga.com, police said there was no information to provide “at this time.”

However, online speculation indicated the person was found along the rocks near the water but that has not been confirmed by officials.

The reports prompted discussion online about the safety of the rocks and how slippery they can become.

Several said the people often try to get close to the water’s edge and slip on the algae-covered rocks.

“People have no idea how dangerous the rocks can be,” wrote one person on a Facebook chat group. “They have to climb down on the very bottom ledge that the waters is touching even with little kids in their arms for photo opps. They don’t get that those rocks are covered in algea because the water is low. They look safe but when waves breach them or overspray they are slippery as hell.”

Others indicated that they have fallen into the water while climbing on the rocks.

“I recall looking at a patch of algae and thinking it was dry. My left foot stepped on it and I did the splits, went into the lake head first, feet pointed to the sky,” commented another person on the site.

Several suggested that signs warning of the potential danger be posted along the lakefront near the rocks.

“Yes, they need signs to at least worn people with small children who aren’t aware of the danger,” another person said. “I have also known of people who have had a few too many and think they can walk out on them. So sad.”
