UPDATE: One person has been taken into custody, according to Peel Regional Police, and the lockdown and hold-and-secures have all been lifted as of about 11:30 a.m. The police investigation is continuing.
A high school in Mississauga’s west end has been locked down this morning after reports that a weapon was seen.
Peel Regional Police said in a post to social media St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School has locked its doors and confined students and staff to classrooms “as a precaution” while they investigate “unconfirmed reports of a weapon seen.”
Police didn’t specify what type of weapon was reportedly spotted or where it’s believed to have been seen and in whose possession.
The school is located at Glen Erin Drive and Erin Centre Drive, just across from Erin Mills Town Centre.
A number of other area schools have been placed in hold-and-secure mode, which is essentially a partial lockdown that takes effect when the apparent threat isn’t considered as serious.
Police received the call at about 10:15 a.m.
