A new mural commemorates Brampton’s 50th birthday.
The city unveiled a newly commissioned mural, Blossoming Brampton, by renowned artist Jerry Rugg (aka birdO), Brampton officials said in a press release Monday.
Located in the heart of downtown Brampton on The Rose theatre at 1 Theatre Lane, the mural symbolizes Brampton’s transformation over the past 50 years and celebrates the city’s heritage and promising future, the release states.
“As Brampton celebrates its 50th birthday, the unveiling of this stunning mural, Blossoming Brampton, is a powerful reminder of how far we have come as a community,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “It reflects our growth, diversity, and shared values while symbolizing the vibrant future we’re building together. Thank you to birdO and all the residents who contributed to this beautiful piece of art that will inspire for years to come.”
The design was chosen with an arts selection committee and resident input.
“The City extends its gratitude to the residents who contributed to this vision, as well as those who attended events throughout the year in honour of Brampton’s 50th birthday since being incorporated as a city,” the release states.
Rugg said it was an honour to create Blossoming Brampton.
“This mural reflects the diversity, resilience and creativity that make Brampton such a special place. Collaborating with the community and the City has been a rewarding experience, and I hope this piece inspires pride and joy for years to come,” said Rugg.
There were several events for the 50th year including a big celebration in the summer.
The mural is one of more than 65 public art installations in the city. For more information on the mural and Brampton’s public art collection see the website here.
