Police have charged a local religious studies tutor accused of sexual assault and sexual interference of a 15-year-old boy in Brampton.

The alleged assault happened on Sept. 23 at a home in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.

Investigators say the victim was assaulted by a local man who has worked as a private religious studies tutor for several years but have not confirmed whether the victim was a student of the accused.

Police say an investigation led to the arrests of the 50-year-old tutor from Brampton on Saturday.

Abdul Qadeer Syed, 50, of Brampton has been charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Police say Syed has been working as a private religious instructor for at least the last six years and say the investigation is ongoing as investigators believe there may be additional victims.
