RECALLS: Waffles, pancakes, candies, fitness equipment and baby walkers recalled in Ontario

Ontario residents are urged to check their homes for recently recalled products that could pose risks of injury, illness, or allergic reactions if used or consumed.

The product is being recalled from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may appear normal but can still cause illness. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk, bringing mild, flu-like symptoms. However, the infection can result in premature delivery, newborn infection or stillbirth. In severe cases, Listeria infection can be fatal.

Risks: Poses health hazards.

What you should do: Throw the product in the garbage and contact a healthcare provider if you believe you’ve fallen sick from eating the waffles.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

PowerBlock Commercial Pro 100 adjustable dumbbells

The recall involves 5 lb grip handles from the PowerBlock Commercial Pro 100 adjustable dumbbell system, model number 340-00656-00 and UPC 340-00656-00.

These black handles feature a knurled grip and silver decals marking weights in 10-lb increments from 5 to 95 lbs, allowing users to add or remove weight plates for customized resistance.

Individuals should note that this recall does not affect the 10 lb grip handles in the same set, which display red decals.

The company has identified a potential safety risk with the 5 lb grip handle, which may pose an impact injury hazard to the user’s arm when used with weights over 55 lbs.

The company reported that eight units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 1,845 were sold in the United States between March 2023 to August 2024.

Risks: Poses injury hazard

What you should do: Immediately stop using the recalled dumbbells and contact PowerBlock, Inc. to receive replacement decals and a replacement handle.

As of Oct. 15, 2024, the company has received no incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received four incident reports and no reports of injuries.

Baby walkers available on eBay.ca

A baby walker is an enclosed activity structure designed to support infants or young children in a sitting or standing position, allowing their feet to touch the floor.

The listed products include a removable fabric base; when detached, it enables a child’s feet to reach the floor, classifying it as a baby walker.

According to Canada.ca, baby walkers are banned in Canada due to safety concerns. The devices can expose children to hazards they wouldn’t typically reach, increasing the risk of injury. Children using baby walkers may also fall down stairs, which can lead to serious injury or death.

eBay.ca reported that 20 units of the affected products were sold in Canada.

The products have been removed from eBay.ca. Health Canada has notified the foreign third-party sellers and is advising consumers to stop using the items.

No incidents or injuries related to these products have been reported to Health Canada.
