The pork jelly is being recalled from the marketplace as it may contain a microbial contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may appear normal but can still cause illness. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk, which brings on mild, flu-like symptoms. However, the infection can result in premature delivery, newborn infection or stillbirth. In severe cases, Listeria infection can be fatal.

The recall was initiated following the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) findings during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products

Risks: Poses health hazards.

What you should do: Throw the product in the garbage and contact a healthcare provider if you believe you’ve fallen sick from eating the pork jelly.
