The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace due to possible norovirus contamination.

According to Health Canada, Norovirus illness typically causes symptoms of gastroenteritis within 24 to 48 hours, though they can appear as early as 12 hours after exposure. Symptoms often start suddenly and include diarrhea, vomiting (more common in children), nausea, and stomach cramps. Other symptoms may include a low-grade fever, headache, chills, muscle aches, and fatigue. Most people recover within one to two days, with symptoms resolving on their own and no long-term effects. However, even after recovery, individuals can be re-infected. It is important to stay hydrated to prevent dehydration. In severe cases, hospitalization and intravenous fluids may be necessary.

Risks: Potential health hazard.

What you should do: If individuals suspect they’ve become ill from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider immediately. To determine whether you have recalled products, check the list of affected items.

Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute any recalled products. Recalled items should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers who are uncertain whether they have purchased the recalled products should contact the retailer for clarification.

This recall was triggered by findings by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak in British Columbia. It is unclear how many people reported falling ill after consuming the oysters.
