RECALLS: Children’s cribs, toys, helmets and stoves recalled in Ontario

Another week and another set of recalls.

Ontario residents are urged to check their homes for these commonly used products, which may pose risks such as head injuries, burns, entrapment, and choking hazards.


Costway 3-in-1 Baby Bassinet Beside Sleeper Crib

The recall involves Costway Portable Baby Bed Side Sleeper Infant Travel Cribs, which feature a detachable sidebar, two fixed ropes, retractable feet, and five adjustable height levels.

These products do not comply with Canada’s Cribs, Cradles, and Bassinets Regulations, as they have a sleep surface with an incline greater than 7 degrees, which poses a risk of entrapment and suffocation.

Health Canada advises that the safest place for a baby to rest is on their back on a firm, flat surface designed for sleep.

The company reported that 104 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between Nov. 2020 to Feb. 2024.

Risks: Poses injury and entrapment hazards.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled products and contact Costway for a refund.

As of August 28, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


Gasaciods Children’s Multi-Purpose Helmets

Gasaciods Helmets in Pink

The recall involves Gasaciods Children’s multi-purpose helmets, designed for head circumferences of 19-1/2 to 20-1/2 inches and sold by Fengwang Sports. Available in pink and blue, the helmets feature red removable padding, black straps, a black and red buckle and have “GASACIODS” printed on the sides.

The recalled helmets do not meet federal safety standards for positional stability, dynamic strength of the retention system, impact attenuation, and certification. As a result, they may fail to protect users in a crash, posing a risk of head injury.

The company reported that 5 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between  July 2023 to October 2023.

Risks: Poses injury hazard.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the helmets and safely dispose of them in such a way that it cannot be used again. You should then contact Fengwang Sports for a refund.

As of August 8, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


Dumbbell Toy from the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps

Baby Biceps Gift Set

The recall affects the dumbbell toy in the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set. The set, which also includes a kettlebell toy, a protein shake bottle, and a headband, is identified by model number GJD49 on the back of the kettlebell toy. Only the dumbbell toy is included in the recall.

The grey caps on the ends of the dumbbell toy can detach.

The company reported that approximately 44,512 units of the affected products were distributed in Canada between June 2020 and April 2024, while 366,200 units were sold in the United States between April 2020 and August 2024.

Risks: Potential choking hazard.

What you should do: Discontinue using the dumbbell toy and contact Fisher-Price to receive a partial refund.

As of August 15, 2024, there have been four reports in Canada and seven in the United States of the dumbbell toy’s ends coming off, but no injuries have been reported.

The company reported that approximately 326,250 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between 2013 to August 2024.

Risks: Potential fire hazard.

What you should do: Individuals using the recalled ranges without knob locks or covers should keep children and pets away from the knobs, avoid leaving objects on the range when not in use, and ensure the knobs are off before leaving home or going to sleep. Consumers are advised to contact Samsung Canada for a free set of knob locks or covers suitable for their electric slide-in range model.

As of August 28, 2024, the company has received over 57 reports of incidents in Canada and seven reports of injuries.
