RECALLS: Children’s clothing, cribs, lawn mowers and torches recalled in Ontario

This week, Ontario residents are advised to inspect their homes for children’s clothing, electrical equipment and other items as some pose health risks, including lacerations and burns.


Fashion Online Long-Sleeve/Pants Two-Piece Pajama Sets

Recalled “I LOVE MOM” Two-Piece Pajama Set

This recall involves children’s two-piece pyjama sets sold in eight styles: I Love Dad, I Love Mom, Tutu Awake to Sleep, LOL Bright Pink, LOL Light Pink, Unicorns Forming a Heart, Standing Unicorn, and Unicorn in Heart.

The pyjamas, available in sizes 1Y to 8Y, have a side-seam label listing “100% Cotton,” “Made in China,” size and washing instructions. There is no neck label on the pyjamas.

These pyjama sets fail to meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a burn risk.

Loose-fitting sleepwear can more easily contact ignition sources like stove elements, candles, and matches and burns quickly once ignited, potentially causing severe burns over large areas of a child’s body.

The company reported that approximately 1,941 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between February 2023 to May 2024.

Risks: Poses flammability hazards.

What you should do: Individuals should destroy the recalled items by cutting the top and bottom in half before disposing of them. They are also advised to contact Fashion Online for a full refund.

As of August 8, 2024, Fashion Online has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


JUVENNO KIDS Children’s Button- up Short Sleeve/ Shorts Two Piece Pyjama Sets

Children’s two-piece pajama set- Light purple colour

The two-piece pyjama sets are available in champagne, light purple, and peach. They include a short-sleeve button-up top with matching shorts. The sleeves, collar, pocket and hems have white trim. A permanent label is attached, displaying the garment size and “100% polyester” on the front, with washing instructions and “MADE IN CHINA” on the back.

These pyjama sets fail to meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a burn risk.

As of August 7, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


South Shore Furniture Ltd. Balka, Yodi and Dylan cribs

This recall involves South Shore Ltd. brand cribs, specifically the Balka, Yodi and Dylan models. The cribs can be identified by the model and order numbers on the label inside the bottom end of the crib.

There are 28 different models part of the recall. Here are the first 10:

  • BALKA 12938: 45375210 – Pure White

The spacing between some crib slats is 3 mm to 5.5 mm, which is too wide. This creates a dangerous gap that poses an entrapment risk.

Health Canada reminds parents and caregivers that the safest place for a baby to sleep is on their back on a firm, flat sleep surface.

The company reported that 2,563 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between July 2020 and March 2024.

Risks: Potential entrapment hazard.

What you should do: Discontinue using the recalled products and contact South Shore Furniture Ltd. for a refund.

As of August 12, 2024, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

If water enters the mower’s handle support while the battery is installed, it may fail to shut off when the bail handle is released or start without a key.

The company reported that approximately 9,630 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 16,000 were sold in the United States between February 2024 to July 2024.

Risks: Poses laceration hazards.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled mower if it has gotten wet, and contact DeWALT for a free repair at an authorized service centre.

As of August 8, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, there have been 11 reported incidents, including one that resulted in a minor laceration.


HOMETRENDS Tabletop Torches and BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS Eco Torches

HOMETRENDS Tabletop Torch - Black

The recalled products do not meet the hazard labelling requirements under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. The lack of proper labelling could lead to unintentional exposure and result in serious illness or injury.

The following products are included in the recall:

  • HOMETRENDS Tabletop Torch – Black — 6 2773544746 9
  • HOMETRENDS Tabletop Torch – White — 6 2773544747 6

The company reported that 24,324 of the Hometrends tabletop torches and 2,748 units of the Better Homes and Gardens eco torches were sold in Canada between February 2024 to July 2024.

Risks: Poses health hazard.

What you should do:  Stop using the recalled product and return it to Wal-Mart for a refund.

As of August 6, 2024, the company has received no reports of injuries or incidents in Canada.
