RECALL: One person dead and others hospitalized by recalled carrots in Canada and the U.S.

A major recall has been issued linked to an outbreak of E. coli caused by bagged organic carrots.
The recall has been activated in both the U.S. and Canada.
At the time of publication, there have been 15 hospitalizations and one death linked to the outbreak in the U.S., according to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC).
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has noted that — at this time — there have been no reported hospitalizations or fatalities in Canada.
The primary brands linked to this outbreak include Bunny-Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments Organic and PC Organics baby carrots.
According to the CFIA, products contaminated with the E. coli O121 bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.
Common symptoms can include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Mild to severe abdominal cramps
- Watery to bloody diarrhea.
In severe cases of illness, some exposed individuals may have seizures, strokes, blood transfusions or require kidney dialysis.
Beyond that, E. coli exposure can cause fatalities.
The CFIA is conducting an active food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. CFIA officials are currently verifying that the recalled products are removed from the marketplace.
If you think you became sick as a result of consuming the above-mentioned recalled products, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
