There are more ways to stay active with the reopening of two recreation and sports facilities in Brampton.

On Tuesday the city cut the ribbon on the revamped Bramalea Tennis Club at Chinguacousy Park and the Century Gardens Recreation Centre which have been revitalized with upgrades and new amenities.

New additions to the Bramalea Tennis Club include an 80-square-metre expansion with a lounge, kitchenette, viewing areas of the courts and a rooftop viewing deck.

There’s also a new storage room and a universal change room with lockers, and new washrooms with barrier-free features with shower stalls and a private dry area.

As for the Century Gardens Recreation Centre, the city says renovations to pool change rooms have improved accessibility and energy efficiency with upgrades like plumbing and lighting systems to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

“The enhancements at Bramalea Tennis Club at Chinguacousy Park and Century Gardens Recreation Centre ensures everyone can enjoy high-quality recreational facilities and continue to lead active and healthy lifestyles,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.

Some funding for the revitalization projects came through the Federal Economic Development Agency, which also helped develop Brampton’s first Certified Commercial Kitchen, which the city says will serve as a culinary hub and food incubator in the heart of downtown Brampton’s Innovation District when it opens in the fall.

The upgrades are part of Brampton’s five-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan which aims to promote physical activity and meet the needs of Brampton residents.

You can see the new upgrades by visiting the Bramalea Tennis Club at 9050 Bramalea Rd. and the Century Gardens Recreation Centre at 340 Vodden St. East.
