Pumpkins were thrown from highway overpasses in Ontario, striking trucks below and causing significant damage to at least two of the vehicles, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police issued a news release about the incidents that happened in London, and said they are searching for the person or persons responsible.

On Friday at around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Old Victoria Road after being told of a pumpkin that hit the windshield of a transport truck, “causing extensive damage.”

Around 40 minutes later, officers received two more reports of trucks being hit by pumpkins, this time in the eastbound lanes of Highway 402 near White Oak Road, police said.

That’s around a 12 kilometre drive from where the first incident occurred.

There was “significant damage” to the windshield of one those transport trucks, a police spokesperson said.

“The other transport was simply described as damaged and I believe(the pumpkin)  did not strike the windshield,” the spokesperson added.

No injuries were reported.

In each of the incidents, the trucks were able to safely pull over to the shoulder, police said.

Police said they haven’t been able to get a description of the suspect or suspects responsible.

“These dangerous and reckless acts pose a serious threat to public safety. Behaviours like this can result in collisions, serious injuries and even fatalities,” OPP said.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information was asked to come forward.
