A group gathered outside a Mississauga auto parts company protesting what they say is wage theft.
Naujawan Support Network, a group of students and international workers, protested outside Parts Avatar on the Thanksgiving long weekend, according to a tweet from Aminah Sheikh, a union organizer and political campaigner.
Parts Avatar, an online auto parts company located near Pearson Airport, did not respond to requests for comment on the protest from insauga.com.
The protesters chanted as Sheikh said they were fighting against exploitation and wage theft.
A Part Avatar employee said she hasn’t been paid overtime or vacation pay and is owed more than $9,000. When she demanded the wages, her boss said he called immigration services and revoked support for her permanent residency application.
“These youth are self-organized and take direct action against bad bosses,” Sheikh said in a tweet. “They are showing up with courage and a vision.”
