Commuters who use PRESTO to travel around Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, Durham and Toronto will soon be paying less.

Today (Aug. 2), Metrolinx announced that starting Aug. 8, the transit agency will reduce the price of PRESTO cards from $6 to $4.

“This is one more way Metrolinx is making it easier to take transit,” Metrolinx said in a news release.

PRESTO cards are accepted on 11 different transit systems, including MiWay in Mississauga, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Oakville Transit, Durham Region Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, York Region Transit, OC Transpo in Ottawa and the TTC. PRESTO cards can also be used on GO Transit and the Union Pearson Express.

Cards are available at transit customer service outlets, Shoppers Drug Mart stores, fare vending machines and ticket vending
machines.

“Metrolinx makes most local transit fares free for passengers connecting between participating agencies and GO Transit. When a customer uses a PRESTO card for both legs of a trip, the discount will be applied automatically,” Metrolinx said.

The travel agency also said that some transit agency discounts, such as those for youths, post-secondary students and seniors, are only available with a PRESTO card.
