After skipping 2020 due to the pandemic, the Big Bass Champion Fishing Tournament is splashing down once again in Port Colborne.

At their most recent Council meeting, the City okayed spending $4,000 on “event promotion and marketing on social media” to lure anglers back to town.

At the same time, they waived the permit fees to use H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park as this year’s site of the event, which will be held September 18-19.

The park is bordered to the south by the Gravelly Bay part of Lake Erie, which apparently does have a ready supply of bass.

The only contingency on the $4,000 promotional fees issued by the City is that the tournament submit “a certificate of liability insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 naming the City of Port Colborne as additional insured.”
