A popular Toronto restaurant has opened a location in Mississauga.
Tita’s Mexican Food has opened at 1852 Lakeshore Rd. W. in Clarkson. This is the third location for the restaurant — one is on St. Clair Avenue West in Toronto, and the other is in Mimico.
The restaurant offers authentic cuisine such as birria, a traditional meat stew or soup from the state of Jalisco.
There are a variety of tacos made with corn tortillas. Hearty enchiladas dishes and chilaquiles (crispy tortillas with toppings) are also on the menu.
For dessert, customers can find the concha chocolate, a popular Mexican pastry. To drink, try the horchata, a typical Mexican beverage prepared with rice, milk and cinnamon, which is soaked overnight for optimal flavour.
Tita’s Mexican Food began as a catering company that strived to promote and create awareness about traditional, homemade Mexican cuisine, according to the website.
Founder Istra Avila grew up in Mexico City with her mother and grandmother who loved to cook.
On the website Avila says her passion for Mexican food came from her grandmother, Cuca.
“Her kitchen was a wondrous place,” Avila says on the website. “Every day was filled with a new flavour, a new recipe, a new dish the whole family couldn’t get enough of. Not just a fantastic cook, Cuca was also a wonderful teacher, who took joy in sharing her secrets with me and the whole family.”
