Holy Smokez Mississauga BBQ

A homestyle American barbecue restaurant that has delivered tasty dishes to Mississauga residents and visitors to the city for the past decade is closing down permanently.

The owner of Holy Smokez BBQ, at 1133 Dundas St. E., near Stanfield Rd., says the family-run business simply isn’t able to afford what amounts to a doubling of the rent payments.

Owner Rick McAllister says the lease is up soon, so the restaurant will close for good at the end of April.

“It’s been a good run,” McAllister told insauga.com. “And I appreciate (our customers) being good patrons over the years.”

With an American barbecue style all their own, Holy Smokez built up a loyal customer base in Mississauga over the years.

“After over 40 years, we have modelled our own barbecue style to bring you a little taste from some of the most famous states like Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Louisiana,” owners said on their website prior to closing. “As a small family business, we work hard to bring you a true southern barbecue experience.”

Prior to news of the restaurant’s closing, many customers provided online reviews over the years.

“Holy Smokez is an unassuming spot on Dundas, surely a hidden gem,” wrote one customer on the restaurant’s web site. “The portions are generous as with any great restaurant, the food is authentic to the southern style…(and) the owner is very down to earth and welcoming. If you haven’t had the chance to try a sandwich from this establishment, you are missing out.”

Another customer couldn’t rate the rib and sandwich joint highly enough, saying:

“I would rate this place 20 stars if I could. The food was amazing and the prices were worth it.”
