Police use helicopter to track carjacked Mercedes, Brampton man charged

Five people including a 31-year-old from Brampton have been charged after police used a helicopter to track a group of alleged carjackers near Markham.
Around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday (July 6), York Regional Police say officers were called to the area of Stouffville Rd. and Hwy 404 in Whitchurch-Stouffville, approximately 26 kilometres north of Markham.
A man was driving his Mercedes G-Wagon when he was rear-ended by a vehicle, and police say suspects approached the victim and demanded his keys and cell phone.
The suspects then took off in the stolen Mercedes, but police used a helicopter to track both the stolen Mercedes and the suspects’ vehicle.
Officers on the ground stopped the vehicles and five people were arrested in the incident including a 31-year-old from Brampton.
Police say Syed Ali Hussain, 31, of Brampton, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Mohammad Jamal Rashid, 20, of Barrie, Blake White, 24, of Saint John’s, Syed Ali Shan, 20, of Vaughan, and Natalee Newton, 20, of Midhurst have all also been charged. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
