Update: Story has been updated to include the latest information from Peel Regional Police. See additional information at bottom of story.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School in northwest Mississauga is in a state of “lockdown” as police respond to reports of a student armed with a knife this afternoon.
Peel Regional Police received a “weapons dangerous” call just after 2 p.m. that there was a student with a knife at the Trelawny Circle high school.
There are no reports of any threats being made.
As of shortly after 3 p.m., police told insauga.com they had still not located the student.
“Lockdown” means the school doors are locked and teachers and students are told to remain in their classrooms.
Meanwhile, nearby Trelawny Public School is in a state of “hold-and-secure.”
Police say a hold-and-secure status is more of a precaution and means that no unauthorized visitors are to be allowed into the school and it’s recommended that teachers and students remain in the classroom and not roam the hallways.
Update: As of about 4 p.m., police say that officers have located the students involved in the incident at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School.
The “lockdown” at the northwest Mississauga high school has been lifted, as has a “hold-and-secure” order at nearby Trelawny Public School.
