A Brampton driver faces several charges after a Toronto Police officer was dragged by a vehicle in the city.
The incident happened after officers conducted a traffic stop on Harbour Street near York Street in Toronto on Friday (Dec. 8) around 2:30 p.m., Toronto Police said in a press release.
Police said the driver was seen using his cell phone while driving. When police stopped the vehicle, the driver refused to identify himself and then fled the scene in the vehicle.
An officer was then dragged a short distance and then the officer fell on the roadway. The officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The driver fled eastbound on Harbour Street from York Street, police said. The vehicle was described as a dark-coloured Mazda 3 hatchback.
But on Monday (Dec. 11), Christian Marryshow Dixon, 22, of Brampton, turned himself in to police.
Dixon was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop at an accident scene, driving with a hand-held communications device, driving while under suspension, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
