Police investigate after vehicle went into Lake Ontario in Mississauga

Peel Regional Police are investigating after a car went into Lake Ontario in Mississauga early this morning (March 24).
Patrol officers, alongside the service’s marine unit, were called to the scene in the area of Lakefront Promenade and Lakeshore Rd. E shortly after 3 a.m.
Police say the well-being of the occupants of the vehicle is still being assessed.
Motorists may want to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
Update: Police say members of their diving unit found the car in eight to 10 feet of water, and one person escaped the vehicle as it entered the lake.
Police have not yet located a second person that was in the car.
Divers are dealing with poor visibility as they search for the second occupant, police say.
