Police identify victim in fatal weekend shooting at Mississauga restaurant

Police have released the identity of a 25-year-old man who was gunned down in a mass shooting at a restaurant in Mississauga over the weekend.

On May 31, Peel Regional Police announced that Oakville man Naim Akl was pronounced deceased after an armed suspect allegedly opened fire inside the Chicken Land restaurant at The Collegeway and Glen Erin Drive. 

The shooting took place around 7:20 pm on May 29, 2021.  

According to police, the gunman struck several other people, including the 56-year-old owner, his 44-year-old wife, his two sons (aged 22 and 25) and a 58-year-old male employee.

The four other victims were transported to trauma centres and remain in stable condition.
