An Ontario Provincial Police cruiser was hit by a truck while parked on the shoulder of an Ontario highway Wednesday morning, officers say.

OPP said that at around 6:20 a.m., a cruiser was hit by an eastbound tractor trailer while parked on the side of Highway 402 at Modeland Road in Sarnia.

Police said the cruiser was in a construction zone with its lights activated.

The officer wasn’t inside the vehicle at the time and no one was injured.

“The Lambton OPP would like to remind motorists of the ‘move over’ law, which requires drivers to slow down and when safe, move over to the next lane when approaching stopped emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or roadside assistance vehicles with flashing lights activated,” the OPP said.

A 25-year-old Brampton resident has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with multiple offences.
