Police cruiser crash in Brampton shuts down Airport Road

Traffic on a busy Brampton road was shut down for hours on Tuesday (Dec. 20) after yet another crash involving a police car this month.
Peel Regional Police say the crash happened around 11:00 p.m. near Airport Rd. and Williams Pkwy. when a police cruiser was struck by a vehicle, according to police.
No injuries were reported in the crash, but both the northbound and southbound lanes of Airport Rd. had to be closed between Northpark Dr. and Williams Pkwy. while crews cleared the scene.
The stretch of Airport Rd. was closed for approximately three hours while investigators were on scene. Police did not say if any charges were pending from the crash.
The incident is at least the third collision involving a police cruiser in Peel Region this month.
On Dec. 12, police say a fire truck and a police cruiser crashed into each other in Brampton near Kennedy Rd. and Clarence St. No one was hurt in the crash.
And a Caledon driver was temporarily taken off the road after an alleged crash with a police cruiser at an impaired driving checkstop north of the city on Friday (Dec. 16).
The Caledon OPP say an officer was setting up for a Festive RIDE checkstop around 12:40 a.m. on Friday at the offramp from Hurontario St. to Valleywood Blvd. in Caledon.
That’s when police say a driver rear-ended a parked police cruiser with its emergency lights on. Photos from the collision appear to show a white truck crashed into a back end of a police cruiser.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Caledon OPP Detachment where additional breath tests were conducted. The vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days and the driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.
