Police chase in Brampton leads cops to hidden handgun

A foot chase from police ended in drug and firearm charges for a Brampton man during a traffic stop on the weekend.

Peel Regional Police say officers pulled over a vehicle near Queen St. East and Kennedy Rd. in Brampton just before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

During the traffic stop police say one of the occupants fled on foot and was seen ditching what officers believed to be a firearm.

Officers gave chase on foot and arrested the man, and PRP say they recovered a quantity of drugs and a loaded revolver.

Joseph Thorpe, 29 of Brampton, has been charged with:

  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking

Thorpe was held for a bail hearing and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
