A transport truck loaded with cardboard collided with a divider on Highway 401 and burst into flames.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Avenue Road in Toronto around 12:30 a.m. this morning (March 8), OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt said in a post on X.
The crash caused major delays, closing the express lanes from Highway 404 this morning.
There were no injuries reported and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The fire damaged the highway and end-treatment guardrail and took hours to clean up. The end treatment was replaced.
“It took extensive equipment and resources to get the truck and all the debris picked up and cleaned up,” Schmidt said.
The express lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.
The transport truck driver faces careless driving charges, Schmidt said.
