Photos of the northern lights in Ontario are popping up across social media.
Brilliant colours lit up the sky in parts of southern Ontario Monday night.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Centre forecasted the lights Sunday night and early Monday morning this week.
The forecast continued into Monday night.
Periods of strong geomagnetic storms or disruptions to the earth’s magnetic field produce Aurora Borealis, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
Many people snapped photos of the lights across Ontario and into the U.S. on Monday night.
“Impressive northern lights show ongoing across Southern Ontario tonight!” Instant Weather Ontario said Monday night.

They may have been visible in areas close to Toronto. The moon was nearly full Monday night and the brightness competed with the lights but people still saw them.
