The city wants bike riders in Brampton to get out on the road and snap a picture of their trip for Bike to Work Week.

June is Bike Month in Brampton with the city already celebrating the occasion with the 10th-annual Bike the Creek event, and more riders are hitting the road for Bike to Work Week.

Bike to Work Week runs from June 16 to 22 with the city encouraging residents to ride a bicycle to their place of business if they are able. Local employers can also support Bike to Work Week with a swag pack for employees courtesy of the city.

“Biking to work is a great way to incorporate light exercise into your routine while improving your mental health, reducing your carbon footprint and increasing your focus throughout the day,” the city says of Bike to Work Week.

City workers got in on the action by riding their bikes to work this week and you may see more children out on bicycles this month with Bike to School programs also running. Anyone participating in Bike to Work Week is encouraged to take a picture on their ride and post to social media using the hashtag #BramptonBikeMonth to spread awareness of the initiative.

Bike Month festivities kicked off with the Brampton Bicycle Festival this Saturday at Chinguacousy Park and there is only one Brampton Community Ride left for June.

The ride is happening this Sunday starting at the Dairy Queen at James Potter Road and Williams Parkway starting at 9:45 a.m.

Community rides are scheduled through to late September with a choice of 5 km or 15 km routes, depending on your comfort and skill level.
