Photo of suspect in serious Hamilton sexual assault released

A 46-year-old woman in Hamilton was assaulted to the point she was in life-threatening condition early on Monday, and police have released a photo of the suspect.

Hamilton Police Service (HPS) say that officers were flagged down by a witness in the area of 353 Barton St. E. around 2:55 a.m. on Monday (June 27). The woman was found to have been seriously assaulted in a nearby alleyway. The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. She remains in hospital.

“Investigators have determined based on evidence that this assault contained a sexual component and are treating this as a sexual assault investigation,” Hamilton police said Monday afternoon.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black-and-white track suit. He fled on foot westbound on Barton East. He is described as a Black male who is young, tall, and has short braided hair. He was wearing the tracksuit pictured above.

Investigators from HPS will be in the area of Barton St. for the majority of the day canvassing for both witnesses and video.
