Mississauga $1 million lottery winner.

Before Donna Heaton began celebrating what appeared to be a big lottery win, she first checked to see if her phone was working properly.

Luckily for the Mississauga woman, her device was in good enough condition when it let her know she’d won a $1 million Maxmillions prize in the May 24 Lotto Max draw.

“I scanned my ticket on the OLG app and it said, ‘Big Winner.’ I couldn’t believe it. I even restarted my phone a few times,” Heaton, who works in retail, recalled while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her windfall.

The Mississauga woman said she’s been playing OLG lottery games and tickets for 40 years and she plays numbers each week on Lotto Max that correspond to special birthdays.

“I would always jokingly ask the store clerk to give me the winning ticket,” Heaton laughed. “I’d often win a little on each one, but always thought I’d win big someday. I feel excited that it finally happened.”

The lucky winner plans to invest her winnings and start planning her next trip.
