A first-time event in Burlington is meant to introduce people to possibly their future housemates.

The Summer Social at the Burlington Animal Shelter set for July 6 will not only give the public an up-close look at the shelter and the services provided, but a chance to meet adoptable animals.

Although same-day adoptions will not be taking place at the event, attendees, however, can book a follow-up adoption appointment. Residents can email [email protected] or call 905-335-7777 if interested in adopting, would like to set up an in-person appointment or have questions about any of the animals available for adoption.

Also at the event, you can tour the animal shelter and find out about programs such as microchipping, dog licensing, and how to wildlife-proof your property. There will be games for kids and refreshments will be served.

“This event is a great family-friendly opportunity to have fun and learn more about the roles and responsibilities of Animal Services,” said Adam Palmieri, Burlington’s manager of Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Services.

Some facts about animals and pets:

  • The Burlington Animal Shelter responds to over 8,000 calls per year.
  • On average, the Burlington Animal Shelter takes in over 450 stray, abandoned and surrendered pets a year.
  • On average, the Burlington Animal Shelter arranges adoptions for over 140 animals per year.
  • In 2023, the Burlington Animal Shelter reunited approximately 170 animals with their owners.

The summer social takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burlington Animal Shelter, 2424 Industrial Street.

Admission and parking are free. Donations are welcomed through the City of Burlington’s Promoting Animal Welfare (PAW) fund. A list of items regularly needed by the shelter is available here.

Parking is limited and visitors are encouraged to carpool or take Burlington Transit.
