Peel Region just brought back a handy service for Brampton residents who are always confused about the garbage collection schedule.

Peel now offers free waste collection notifications that will remind residents of the upcoming garbage collection day.

The calendar notifies residents of the regular collection schedule, exemption periods and special collection dates throughout the year. For most households, garbage and recycling collection happens every other week and organics are picked up every week while yard waste has its schedule.

“Keep wondering if it’s garbage or recycling day? You don’t have to anymore. We have a new service that will give you waste collection reminders by text message, email or phone call,” states the region on its’ website.

So, how do you sign up for the notifications?

Residents should visit peelregion.ca/waste/calendar and enter their address to bring up the schedule. Then, select “get a reminder” and choose how they want to get their reminders: email, text message, or phone call.

Residents can also add the collection days to their Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar or simply print out the schedule online.

Remember, all residents should put out their waste on the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day but not before 7 p.m. the night before, individual bags and containers must not weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs) each, keep waste separate from the neighbours’, clear the way for collection trucks and tag all excess bags of garbage.
