A Peel Regional Police officer has been suspended with pay after being charged with assault.

The Peel police’s internal affairs bureau arrested and charged the officer on Tuesday (Oct. 26). The charges “stem from an off-duty incident that occurred within the City of Brampton,” per a media release.

Const. Pawan Sandhu, a five-year member of the police service, is facing one count of assault, assault causing Bodily Harm, and uttering threats. These charges have not been proven in court.

Under the Police Services Act, Const. Sandhu is suspended with pay. He is slated to appear in a Brampton court on Jan. 10, 2022.

Once criminal court proceedings are completed, the officer will be investigated under the Police Services Act.
