Peel police have started cracking down on illegal marijuana dispensaries throughout the region.

During the week of April 1 to April 5, the Vice, Narcotics and Street Level Organized Crime Units investigated four separate locations in Brampton and Mississauga, police say.

The alleged illicit dispensaries were located in the Queen and Lynch Street area of Brampton and in Mississauga at the intersections of Hurontario and Dundas, Cook Street and Dundas West, and Haines Road and Dundas East.

Officers searched and executed search warrants, leading to ten individuals being charged for allegedly “Unlawfully Selling Cannabis Other Than Authorized Dealer,” under the 2017 Cannabis Control Act.

They wil appear in court in May.

Police say officers seized 5.8 kilograms of marijuana that was packed and ready to be sold.

Currently there is only one authorized cannabis retailer in the Peel Region that is located at Main Street and Nanwood Drive in Brampton. Peel Police say any other location storefront or individuals selling cannabis are committing provincial and federal offences.

Police ask for anyone that has information pertaining to this matter to call the Vice, Narcotics and Street Level Organized Crime Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3515.
