Peel gun investigation leads to charges for Burlington man

A 38-year-old Burlington man is facing multiple charges in connection with a firearms investigation by Peel Regional Police.

After a lengthy investigation into ongoing gun offenses, Peel Police’s Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) team issued a search warrant on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at a Burlington residence near Plains Road and King Road, as well as on a vehicle.

As a result of the search warrant, the following items were seized:

  • 16 grams of fentanyl
  • 6 handguns
  • 12 magazines (9mm)
  • Various rounds of ammunition

Dwayne Phillips, 38, from Burlington was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Careless Storage of Firearm
  • Weapons Trafficking
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Firearm

Phillips was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
