pedestrian dies mississauga

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in September in Mississauga has died.

The 25-year-old woman was hit by a silver Chevrolet Equinox as she walked on Burnhamthorpe Road East, east of Cawthra Road, just before 5 a.m. on Sept. 25.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Peel Regional Police confirmed Friday that she died from her injuries earlier this week.

The Mississauga man who was driving the SUV remained on the scene and rendered assistance, police said. He suffered injuries not considered life threatening.

A bystander told INsauga.com he stopped to offer assistance on Sept. 25 while on his way to work with the TTC. As a TTC employee, he is trained to speak to 911 and he offered to talk with the dispatch operator.

The 911 operator guided him through CPR, which he did until paramedics arrived. He praised the work of the operator and the paramedics.

“Kudos to the dispatchers and the people (emergency crews) who arrived on scene,” he said.

The paramedics took control of the situation quickly and efficiently.

“I was absolutely amazed at how fast they moved,” he said.

Last week, police put out a call for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage around the time of the collision.

As of Oct. 11, no charges have been laid in connection with the crash, police said.
