Family members are grieving the death of 21-year-old Jasmine Kaur Gondara, an international student from India killed in a crash in Brampton earlier this week.

The crash happened around 11:00 p.m. on Monday (Aug. 14) when Peel Regional Police say a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near Major William Sharpe Dr. and Chinguacousy Rd. in Brampton.

Police have confirmed the identity of the victim as 21-year-old Jasmine Kaur Gondara, who family members and media reports out of India say was originally from Punjab and living in Canada as an international student.

A GoFundMe page has been started by family members based in Australia to raise funds for funeral arrangements and to have Gondara’s body sent back to India.

There were initial reports that the victim was walking with or on a motorcycle at the time of the crash, but police confirmed the woman was a pedestrian.

No charges have been laid, and police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Anyone with information on this incident can call the Peel Regional Police non-emergency line at 905-453-3311.
