The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has received a national award for its efforts in making Pearson Airport in Mississauga one of the safest places in the country to work.
Canadian Occupational Safety (COS), a leading publication on occupational health and safety in Canada, recently named the GTAA as one of seven nationwide recipients (1,000-plus employees category) of a 5-Star Safety Cultures Award.
Organizations being considered for awards had to first submit an in-depth description of safety programs initiated in the last year.
Subsequently, employees were then surveyed online where they were asked to rate their company across a range of metrics that constitute drivers of employee satisfaction, COS said.
We’re proud to share that the GTAA has won a 5-Star Safety Culture Award as named by @COSmagazine! The award is given to a small group of employers who exhibit a top-level safety culture and reflects the commitment to safety among Pearson employees. Companies that achieved an overall satisfaction rating of at least 75 per cent were then recognized as 5-Star Safety Cultures Award recipients.
“The winners of the 5-Star Safety Cultures in 2022 are among the best and brightest in Canada, and their programs make a strong impact in the industry,” COS said in a release. “Although awards are not everything–for these organizations, worker safety is enough of a reward–recognition can inspire other companies and the public to promote a safety culture during the most challenging times.”
Metrolinx, the provincial agency that runs public transit in the Golden Horseshoe, Linamar, Modern Niagara Group, North American Construction Group, Ontario Power Generation and Pomerleau are the other recipients of the COS award for companies employing 1,000 or more workers.
