Patients can now receive visitors at both Mississauga hospitals

Visitors are now allowed to see friends and family members who are patients at Mississauga’s two hospitals.
Following Ontario’s roadmap to re-opening, Trillium Health Partners (THP) says the visitation plan will see a gradual phase-in period to safely reconnect patients with visitors at both Credit Valley Hospital and Mississauga Hospital.
Under the new guidelines, each patient can designate two essential visitors and is allowed one daily scheduled visit for a maximum of two hours. Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Essential visitors are chosen by the patient (or substitute decision-makers of incapable patients) as persons who provide direct support to the patient.
Both essential visitors can visit at the same time.
Some exceptions apply for specific patient populations
For patients going to an outpatient clinic or the Emergency Department, visitors are generally not allowed unless the patient:
- Belongs to a specific patient population (more information below in specific patient populations allowing additional essential visitors);
- Needs accommodations as per the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); or
- Needs support for cognitive, communication, mobility, emotional or other care needs that cannot be managed by staff or through virtual means.
THP has an online self-screening tool for patients and essential visitors.
To keep everyone within the hospital and the community safe from the spread of COVID-19, THP’s visitor guidelines must be followed at all times. All visitors must:
- Be identified by the patient (or substitute decision-maker if patient is incapable)
- Pass a COVID-19 screening assessment by answering symptom questions as accurately as possible, including confirming you have:
- No symptoms of COVID-19
- No close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive case
- Not travelled outside of Canada within the last 14 days
- Not been told to stay home by a healthcare provider or public health
- Not received a COVID-19 exposure alert on COVID Alert App within the last 14 days
- Wear a mask at all times. Visitors may wear their own 3-layered masks when in the hospital, as long as it is not dirty. A mask will also be provided to all essential visitors to wear while they are in the hospital. Please click here for a list of THP-approved masks.
- Wash or sanitize hands frequently
- Sign in and sign out at the unit/department for the purpose of contact tracing
- Maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres
- Stay at the patient’s bedside and do not visit other clinical or common areas, except to use a public bathroom
- Be 14 years of age or older, unless an exception has been granted
If a visitor becomes unwell after leaving the hospital, they must contact the unit/department they visited, as well as their health care provider or Telehealth Ontario.
If a visitor develops COVID-like symptoms or/and tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of visiting the hospital, they must contact the unit they visited. Reporting COVID-like symptoms or a positive test helps us conduct contact tracing and determine if inpatient and staff testing is required. Reporting keeps everyone safe and could help save lives.
